First Ever Hike
If I remember correctly, I was around 8 years old when I went on a week-long hiking trip at Mount Apo (in Philippines) with my family and friends. In the first day, I was very excited to come along, so much so that I ran ahead with another group that was going to another route. Thankfully, my family noticed that I was missing and brought me back. If I am going to be honest, I didn’t hike at all after the first day. I unexpectedly caught a fever which made me unable to progress through by my own. Our guide was kind enough to carry me all day long for the next few days. It was quite embarassing and saddening since I didn’t fully experience the hike.
Mt. Greylock
This was my first snowy-mountain hike. It was extremely difficult traversing through the snowy path. I didn't have any snowshoes so the snow went up all the way to my knees. Worse yet, it was extremely cold. My hands were completely numb and when we reached our campsite, we couldn't even set a proper fire since most of the wood around the site were wet. However, these experiences were worth the trouble. When we reached the peak the next day, I was awestruck. I can't describe the scenery in words. Though it was difficult, I am glad that I joined in the trip.
The Unluckiest Trip
There are a lot that went wrong in our hike on Mt. Washington. We (father, sister and I) were late so we couldn't go with our group. This meant that we had to hike in the night. It was very dark so it was hard to know which way was the right way. And you can guess what happened next: We got lost. Thankfully, the path we were on took us back to the starting position. But it was already very late and we didn't want to hike the mountain again. However, there was no cell service so we couldn't contact anyone. We then decided to walk to a different campsite where my mother stayed at. On the way, our lower body started to hurt and was about to give up. Fortunately, we were able to get service and my mother was still awake to answer her phone. She stayed awake the whole time as she was expecting for our call/message once we reached the base camp (there is cell service there). And so she was able to pick us up in the end. All's well that ends well.
